Acne Alternatives

Years ago, prescription medicines revolutionized acne therapy with great success, but the last few years have seen a rise in physical treatments - including photodynamic therapy (PDT), Laser Genesismicrodermabrasion, dermalinfusion, and dietary supplements - as alternatives in managing this unsightly, sometimes disfiguring condition.

  • PDT involves the activation of a light-sensitive chemical solution that has been absorbed into the pores to quell the inflammation and infection therein.*
  • Microdermabrasion and dermalinfusion such as Diamond Glow abrade the outer layers of skin to unroof clogged pores and stimulate removal of whiteheads and blackheads. Additionally, Diamond Glow infuses acne-specific serum into the skin.*
  • Laser Genesis treatments target the redness and pigmentation which often persist after flares of acne.*
  • Dietary phytochemicals derived from certain vegetables have shown promise and efficacy by tweaking estrogen metabolism.

These treatments do not substitute for topical vitamin A creams, antibiotics, and internal vitamin A derivatives, but for those patients who suffer side effects, have very sensitive skin, or whose lifestyles or preferences favor non-medical solutions, there are now sensible alternatives which can help.*
